Simon Thomson

Hi I'm Simon and would like to be the next MP for Dartford. Why? Because I care about our town. I'm a north Kent lad born and bred. My brother and sister-in-law live here. I used to be the Dartford reporter for the BBC and have worked as a journalist for the last fifteen years.

My dad was a Church of England vicar in north Kent for most of his life and my mum was a social worker. They cared about the area and people. So do I. I will stand up for Dartford and will help turn our town around.

I am married with two young daughters, and love spending time with them. I also enjoy playing footy and have been a Gills fan since a young boy - so I’ve experienced the ups and downs of life!

I also know what it is like having a parent needing full time care and how it feels to be unemployed.

Before joining the BBC, I worked as a warehouse picker, a cleaner, in a Royal Mail sorting office, and on a farm. And as a teenager, I used to have a Saturday job selling personal stereos, so if I sold one to you, I apologise.
