Getting Dartford Moving

Screen_Shot_2015-03-31_at_21.45.40.pngTrains: I’ll fight to get a better service for Dartford

I use Southeastern every day to commute into London and I took this photo on a typical journey. Expensive tickets, delays and cancellations, crowded and dirty carriages and a lack of information when things go wrong. Quite simply, Southeastern is letting us down, badly. Dartford’s rail users deserve better. Labour will cap fares and if Southeastern won’t improve, I will push for a change in operator – preferably in the public sector.

Crossing: I’ll campaign against another river crossing at Dartford

Any new crossing has to be built away from Dartford or our town risks remaining a traffic bottleneck forever more. The Tory MP campaigned to scrap the tolls in 2010. They went up by 30%. Now he has failed to get this government to rule out another crossing in Dartford.

Rural bus services

We need a more integrated local transport system. A Labour government will give rural communities a say in how their services are run, for example, over timetables and fares.

“Relying on the bus in the more rural parts of the constituency isn't always possible. Services often seem to bear little resemblance to timetables and in some places, like Sutton at Hone, there's no bus link to Dartford on a Sunday. That makes it very difficult if you need to get to work, or an appointment, and don't have a car. “
